Dear Seeker,
Hypnotherapy is a journey into your own subconscious mind that delves into the depth of the ‘Whys’ and ‘Why me’ questions of life. The symptoms can be emotional, behavioural, physical or even something vague that you don’t fully understand. Here are some frequently asked questions that I have answered to the best of my knowledge, experience and training.
Hypnotherapy can be seeked when other solutions haven’t worked or a problem is difficult to pinpoint. The way it works is to find the exact inner child that developed a negative belief system and a negative emotion and then finds multiple inner children who solidified that belief system of say ‘I am not good enough’. This belief system can start to seep into emotions, energy body and eventually if uncorrected, can cause physical symptoms as well that a person cannot recognise where it came from. Hypnotherapy finds this issue, gently heals the inner child by releasing the emotional charge, taking back their lost energy, understanding the spiritual reason of why that happened to them and how they can have the tools to deal with this in the future.
Why do you need to use hypnosis for therapy?
During talk therapy, when you try to access a memory, it may not be the most accurate memory or the core memory of when the issue began, because it engages the conscious mind. In order to access any memory accurately and especially from childhood, the subconscious mind must be accessed. This is accessed at the Theta level of brain awareness at about 4-8Hz, which is the same as a meditative state of mind. Since meditation cannot be induced in a person, and each person practices meditation differently, hypnosis is induced to reach the Theta state that accesses the subconscious mind.
Can you hypnotise me without my knowledge?
A therapist must only hypnotise with consent and learns to hypnotise with techniques that take anywhere from 10-25 minutes to induce. It cannot happen with just a snap of the fingers like stage hypnotists and mentalists do. This is also why my sessions take longer than talk therapy.
What does hypnosis feel like?
In phase 1, as you are being relaxed, you will feel like a meditative state where you will gently alternating between a shallow deep and deep meditative state. Your mind can also wander. Once the induction of hypnosis is complete and the therapist is satisfied that the subconscious mind is accessible, phase 2 begins where the therapist is speaking to you at all times and you are responding with complete clarity and it is like having a conversation with someone with your eyes closed and very specific visuals in your mind’s eye.
Will I remember what happened?
Once you are in phase 2, it is like any interaction. An evening spent with friends will create strong memories but you wont remember every word you said, but 70-90% of all that is experienced is remembered. Especially the learnings and wisdom that comes from this exercise.
Can you control my mind and get to any secrets?
Usually when my clients feel conscious about revealing something, they are fully aware that that they do not want to share. Some openly tell me, under hypnosis, that it is too private to share and we work around it. Some others, I sense, work around it themselves and change the topic or omit what is happening. I would not recommend the latter, as there are chances of significant things getting missed and it is important to trust your therapist and be honest about not wanting to share. A good therapist will find a way to never pressure the client.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Hypnosis works on a person’s level of suggestibility. All clients who come to me will take a suggestibility test in order for me to understand how to speak to them and the language I can use. The ones who are highly suggestible are easier to hypnotise and vice versa. However, know that trust in this medium is more important than the actual depth of hypnosis that a client can go into.
What types of issues does it work on?
Please find a wide range of symptoms – emotional, physical, existential and even the ones unrecognised, that hypnotherapy can help with here. Alternately, you can find this info through Home > Solutions.
Is it dangerous?
If done with the intent to harm then yes it is. If therapists tell a client what they should experience or feel, especially during hypnosis, then the client is certainly seeking therapy from the wrong therapist. Therapists, during hypnosis cannot suggest that a client must’ve felt anger for example, if they didn’t. They can instead ask what exactly they felt and if the client has trouble spelling out the emotions, the therapist can gently check for other emotions, but never suggest or insist on the client’s experience. That would be a strong ethical breach on their part.
What if something goes wrong?
The first principle of hypnotherapy that I practice is to remind myself that I am simply a guide to a client. I am not here to tell people how to live their lives, but to ensure I help them find a path to their own inner voice, their gut and intuition, which is their highest intelligence and working to serve them the best. if a therapist is not careful and does not follow this, by intentionally or mistakenly planting a memory, then it is not good, but it certainly can be resolved. If something small goes wrong, such as behaviourally something changes, or emotionally and mentally something doesn’t feel right, the same therapist should be able to delve deeper and see what they missed. If you’ve seeked my help, then you should let me know at the earliest and we can investigate where I will do my best to prioritise a session to find a resolution.
How will I know that it is working?
To begin therapy, we will decide on a goal we need to work on. In each session, we will keep checking the progress and adjust accordingly. There are some clients who end up making lifestyle changes subconsciously, without event realising it, during the course of therapy, and only when they take stock and look back do they realise that the changes are quite significant. Some other clients are very aware and can feel the changes happening. Either way, they feel lighter, relieved, and that making behavioural changes is quite effortless.
How many sessions will I need?
With all my clients thus far, with issues of anxiety, uncontrolled crying, excessive demotivation, gut health issues, hypochondria, past life explorations, confidence, self-esteem/self-worth, smoking cessation, sleep issues, over-drinking, emotional eating, etc – 6-8 sessions for someone who is new to hypnotherapy is what it takes. For someone who is a regular client, it may be faster and can be resolved in 1-3 sessions depending on the level of complication and layers.
Is hypnotherapy different from other modalities like Tarot, Reiki, Akashic Records, etc?
Here is a chart that will help yopu to differentiate. Please note that none of the practices below are a substitute for hypnotherapy, but majority of them can be complementary to it.
Balancing modalities are usually at the energetic level and the meridian level where energy centers in the body are worked upon, generally or specifically targetted to certain areas.
Breathwork in daily practices are strongly recommended but cannot work on the core issues of when and how a particular issue began as described at the top.
AYUSH and other holistic treatments – largely work at the physical level and generally find a way to calm the mind or stress release at most, but cannot go into depth of the core issue.
Predictive modalities tell the future and your spirit/soul/consciousness journey as a human but with low to medium specificity. These are practiced for generalised existential questions and to ease the mind of fears of change.
Other forms of therapy largely deal with emotions and behaviour and can be highly effective with, or without medication. However, none of the others have the tools to access the exact memory needed to get to the core issue.

Is hypnotherapy part of the Ayush healing modalities that are accepted by the medical board in India?
No it is not, but efforts are being made by the institutes to consider this as part of Ayush traditional and holistic treatments. You can find the 2023 updated govt document here.
Will hypnotherapy interfere with my medical regimen?
No it will definitely not. Please continue the medical regiment as prescribed. If the doctors have any concerns, we would be happy to speak to them and assure them or find a resolution.
